Anthem Credentialing Services
Anthem Provider Credentialing Services
Anthem (now Elevance Health) is the largest BCBS-affiliated insurer in the United States, operating Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in 14 states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Missouri, New Hampshire, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin. ProEnrollment manages the complete Anthem credentialing process across all Anthem state plans with a 99.4% first-time approval rate.
Anthem CAQH and Application Process
Anthem queries CAQH ProView for primary source verification. Your CAQH profile must be complete, attested within 120 days, and explicitly authorize Anthem and each applicable state plan in the CAQH authorization section. Missing Anthem CAQH authorization is the most common cause of delayed Anthem credentialing applications. ProEnrollment audits every CAQH profile before submission. See: CAQH ProView setup.
Anthem Medicare Advantage Credentialing
Anthem's Medicare Advantage plans (sold under various brand names including Anthem MediBlue and HealthKeepers Plus) require separate credentialing from commercial Anthem plans. Medicare PECOS enrollment must be current as a prerequisite for Anthem Medicare Advantage credentialing. ProEnrollment submits commercial and Medicare Advantage applications simultaneously. See: Medicare PECOS enrollment.
Anthem vs Other BCBS Plans
Outside Anthem's 14 states, BCBS plans are operated by independent licensees. Anthem credentialing in California does not credential you with BCBS Texas, BCBS Florida, or any other independent BCBS plan. ProEnrollment manages both Anthem state plans and independent BCBS affiliates simultaneously. See: BCBS enrollment guide | commercial payer enrollment.
Anthem Timelines and the Availity Workflow
Anthem credentialing runs through the Availity portal in most states — application status, deficiency notices, and effective-date confirmations all live there, and unmonitored Availity messages are the most common reason Anthem applications quietly stall. Typical Anthem timelines run 60–90 days; our average is faster because we check Availity on a fixed weekly cadence and respond to information requests within 24 hours. After approval, we verify your contracted fee schedule against regional benchmarks before you sign — Anthem's first-offer rates are negotiable more often than providers assume, particularly in undersupplied specialties.
